Texas will allow residents 50 and over to receive Covid-19 vaccines beginning March 15, the state's department of health said on Wednesday.
The state announced last week that it would immediately include school and child-care workers to its vaccine eligibility list as well.
The State Department will add 5 million more Texans to the state's priority list, though more than 1 million of them have already been vaccinated.

Who should get a Serology Immunoassay (Lab Antibody Test)?

Confirm you may have had severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that caused coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19), and the respiratory illness responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic:

Vaccinations: Whether you have been vaccinated or will be vaccinated, obtaining a serology immunoassay (Lab Antibody Test) prior to vaccination is important. Why? If you have been exposed to Covid-19 you will have elevated immunoglobulin antibody levels which indicate your degree of future protection.
Post Vaccination: Consider scheduling a serology immunoassay (Lab Antibody Test) about 30 days after your second Pfizer or Moderna shot or your one Johnson and Johnson shot, and again in 6-8 months thereafter. Why? A serology immunoassay will determine your immune response (antibody levels, vaccine effectiveness and protection).
Clinicians and Consumers can Call Us to Schedule a Test: Results differ for individuals and age groups. Regular serology testing (for example, every 3 months) will provide information regarding the active immune response and potential degree of protection from COVID-19 for all vaccines – Why? Know your numbers!

Dr. Stohs is the Executive Vice President of Global Scientific Affairs for Boston BioPharm, Southlake, TX. He is Dean Emeritus of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, Creighton University Medical Center, Omaha, NE where he was involved in the development of the Doctor of Pharmacy degree as the sole professional degree (third in the nation), the nation’s first web-based Doctor of Pharmacy program, and the graduate program. Creighton University he also led the development of the nation’s first entry level Doctor of Physical Therapy program and Doctor of Occupational Therapy program. He previously was a faculty member in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he served as Professor and Department Chair of Biomedicinal Chemistry and Assistant Dean for Research, and also held an appointment as Professor in the Eppley Cancer Institute.
